How long should a video be?

We’re often asked how long videos should be to have the maximum impact on the audience or before they lose interest. The answer really is ‘How long is a piece of string’ because it all depends on the audience, subject and purpose of the video. That answer has never felt good enough to us or I’m sure to you so we’ve been doing some research. I hope you find the information below helpful and please feel free to give us your thoughts.

Testimonials - Testimonial videos in which customers talk about your products or services should be between 1 and 2 minutes in length. Ask questions about the benefits the customer has gained from the product and key features that matter to them.

Virtual tour videos - Virtual tour videos are ever growing in popularity especially in the days of remote interviews in which the candidate may not go into the office until they’ve secured the role. There tends to be a higher level of concentration around these so they can be a little longer at between 3 and 5 minutes in length.

Introduction videos - Introduction videos introduce the audience to the company, services or products and should be between 1 and 2 minutes in length.

Product videos - Product videos tend to show what the product does, what needs it meets and key features are usually between 2 and 3 minutes in length..

When recording your videos try to plan so that you get the key messages across in an engaging way to the viewer. Now I guess I’ll be off to shorten some of our videos :-)
