Has the internet turned us into Goldfish?

I was asked by a customer recently whether I had any data explaining the optimum length of a video. Unfortunately, this is an incredibly difficult question to answer because it all depends on the purpose of the video. Some guidance we tend to give customers though is

·       State your purpose. At the start tell your audience what you’re going to tell them in the recording. This way you capture their attention and they know whether they want to continue to listen

·       Be concise. Plan what you’re going to say before you record your video so that your words have full impact and your audience doesn’t switch off.

·       Personality. Let your personality shine through. People buy from people, whether your selling something or you want to share information but you need the other person to hear and understand what you’ve said people tend to take more notice if they feel a connection to you.

·       Imagery. A picture paints a thousand words so use the functionality within PresentIT to show a diagram, an image or a video detailing what you’re describing. It will help the audience to visualise what you’re saying and will help you make your point more succinctly.

One quote I came across during some research into peak video times online stated that ‘the average attention span for consumers is 8.25 seconds. That is three quarters of a second shorter than the attention span of a goldfish’. Has the constant push of social media videos turned us into Goldfish? Thankfully PresentIT helps you get across the important messages.
